Surry County awarded grant to eliminate food desert

SURRY, Va. (WAVY) — A new grocery store is coming to Surry County.
Leaders are doing work to insert a grocery retailer to the neighborhood in an effort and hard work to remove the county’s designation as a food stuff desert. Officers say the plan is to transform the former hardware shop in Surry into a neighborhood market/grocery retail outlet. Surry Marketplace LLC, which owns the constructing, signed an agreement with United Normal Foods, Inc.
